What first struck me about the New Orleans Saints bounty system, in which players were offered cash rewards for injuring opponents, was less the depravity of the practice -- by many accounts leaguewide and longstanding -- than it was the word bounty, yet another buzzword football co-opted from the military and law enforcement.
Between managing a household with three daughters and working on her first album of new music since 2005, Faith Hill rarely slows down, but lately she has found time to smell the flowers -- quite literally.
⢠Faith Hill dropped some serious cash - $506! - for a silk kimono from Nicole Richie's Winter Kate line while shopping with her daughter at Sofia Boutique in Chicago. The singer tried on various dresses - a combination of new and vintage - but left with the coral and sky blue kimono and a free T-shirt gifted to her by the boutique. She also signed the store's dressing room wall - and was "very pleasant and beautiful," a source tells us.
Politics is serious business -- but not all of the time. From the halls of Congress to the campaign trail to the international stage, there's always something that gets a laugh or a second glance. Here are some of the things you might have missed:
We continue our video series with David Ragan, driver of the No. 6 UPS car, who took some time after filming a commercial to open up about his ultimate Miss Sprint Cup lineup, which driver he'd like to see on Dancing With the Stars and more.
• Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, ordering practically everything on the menu during their family style meal at the Blue Duck Tavern inside Washington, D.C.'s Park Hyatt. Country's first couple dined with Bruce Springsteen, Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson, among other guests, and they started their meal with a plate of sliced meat. "The servers put everything in the middle of the table, and they devoured it," a source tells us. After the steak dinner, Hanks made sure to stop by the restaurant's open kitchen and give his compliments to the chef. Says the source: "Everyone was having such a great time; they were very upbeat."
Last week SI writer Richard Deitsch interviewed country music star Faith Hill (she's married to singer Tim McGraw) for the magazine's Q&A. Hill sings the theme for NBC's Sunday Night Football. Here are additional excerpts from their conversation:
If you're looking for music and sports connections, country music star Faith Hill can hold her own. She's married to Tim McGraw, son of former major leaguer Tug McGraw and a pretty fair athlete himself. (He once scored 48 points in a high school basketball game in Monroe, Louisiana.) Faith ran track (she was a 220 and 440 runner) and played basketball and volleyball at McLaurin High in tiny Star, Mississippi. She and Tim are close friends with fellow Mississippian Brett Favre.
