Text of a statement from John Ramsey, the father of JonBenet Ramsey, released Wednesday after authorities confirmed the arrest of a suspect in the girl's slaying:
On the morning of December 26, 1996, JonBenet's mother Patsy Ramsey reported finding a 2 1/2 page note on a set of stairs in the Ramsey home. Directed to JonBenet's father John Ramsey, the note purported to be from "a small foreign faction" calling itself S.B.T.C. The note demanded $118,000 from the Ramseys for the safe release of their daughter. JonBenet's body was found later that day in the basement of the Ramseys' home.
A suspect was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, Wednesday "for the December 26, 1996, murder of JonBenet Ramsey," the district attorney in Boulder, Colorado, said Wednesday.
Patsy Ramsey, mother of slain 6-year-old JonBenet, died Saturday of ovarian cancer, her lawyer told CNN. She was 49.
