Jurors spared the life of a former Canton, Ohio, police officer who killed his pregnant girlfriend and tearfully asked them for mercy. A judge then sentenced him Wednesday to 57 years to life in prison.
A jury recommends that former police officer Bobby Cutts Jr. be sentenced to life in prison for the murder of pregnant girlfriend Jessie Davis.
"I am not ashamed of my tears," Pastor Dennis K. Butts Sr. said in opening the funeral for Jessie Davis on Saturday. "Tears are a gift from God. Today is a good day to cry."
Policeman Bobby Lee Cutts Jr.'s bond was set at $5 million Monday after he was charged with killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend Jessie Marie Davis at her home about 11 days ago.
